This work is essentially a miniature version of the 300 foot long sculpture “Ball? Ball! Wall? Wall!” by the sculptor Donald Lipski at Laumeier Sculpture Park in Sunset Hills, Missouri. This tunnel book is a prototype with the idea that this could be mass produced and sold as a souvenir at the Laumeier gift shop. Anyone who purchased it would have a miniature version of this extremely large scale sculpture in its natural setting at the peak of summer. Each of the 57 panels were created individually as vector art and laser cut onto watercolor paper. They were then carefully masked off and splatter painted before assembly. The entire book is roughly five feet long when fully extended, and can be compressed into its accompanying sleeve, which has a description of the sculpture printed on the back.

This display typeface allows the user to explore transparent color mixing. Each letterform was created from circles and straight edges, and is composed of two abstract, transparent shapes that combine to create a single character. By using a different color for each separate shape, a three color letterform is made by the overlapping transparencies. This system is easily translated to a stencil, so that letters and words can be created without needing any supports to hold counters and voids in place, especially if one color is used.

This work is simply a lighthearted decision tree to help the user make some sweet choices. I wanted the viewer to feel like they are stepping into an old-school bakery while they make their choice. Each cake was digitally illustrated and given a brief description. The cake selection is broad, but not comprehensive.

In honor of the Missouri Bicentennial coming up in 2021, we were tasked with creating a logo for all branded content produced for the celebration, as well as posters to promote it. The logo needed to be versatile enough to appear on websites, promotional products, tourism materials, and the like, but it also needed to be specific to the state and event. I wasn't able to pass up the opportunity to include our nickname " the show me state" and I experimented with using the color palette in the state flag. Red, white, and blue also represent our national flag, so I focused on a color palette that was reminiscent of our natural landscape in the spring and autumn. 

Missouri is an incredibly diverse state, so I wanted to use my posters to showcase some different perspectives and interesting, close-up moments all across the state. As this was a school project my limited deadline did not allow me to travel across the state as I would like. I have a growing list of sites in Missouri I would like to visit to photograph and I hope to visit them all and continue this project. I was able to take photographs around my hometown of St. Louis, and these posters are the result.

The goal for this project was to create a cohesive, representative, and elegant logo or wordmark for the nation. I began by researching the geography, flora and fauna, the socio-political history, and cultural histories of the people of Namibia.

For a book design project, I chose to honor o the 100th anniversry of the Bauhaus School by creating a series of four book covers featuring some of the women designers from the school who are underrepresented in history. I needed a cover that encompassed the design aesthetic of the Bauhaus, but that can be utilized and adapted for all of the artists featured. This was especially important because the artists featured in the series all worked in different media. The final covers incorporate the simple geometric shapes and primary colors emblematic of the Bauhaus design with a muted primary color palette. The artist’s work is featured on the front of the book within the Bauhaus logo, with a photograph of the artist on the back. This format can be used for additional books featuring the many under represented and unknown women who learned and worked in the Bauhaus..

A color theory project exploring simultaneous contrast. The objective was to apply our knowledge of color harmonies to create an image in a particular historical style that would either make a disparate color palette more harmonious, or to bring complexity to a more minimal palette. Cats are often featured in art deco works, so I chose a more analogous color palette to bring something unexpected and undignified to a sleek and sophisticated Art Deco subject.

A color theory project exploring transparent color mixing. The image was created using hand-carved stamps, paper stencils, and Crayola markers. Every marker in the pack was used for this illustration, except for grey and black. Ozzie, my dog and the subject of the image, is obsessed with the toy in his mouth, so the stamp I used to create him is a miniature version of that favorite toy. I made a number of different stamps for this project, some with significant imagery, and others simply for different textures.

An irreverent step-by-step diagram.

This is an ongoing project of personal work made with products sent each month from Artsnacks, a monthly art supply subscription box. Each work is made only with the 4-5 supplies sent each month, excluding a pencil and eraser and, occasionally, a paintbrush.

This is part of a series of fictional travel posters for Candyland done in the style of the National Parks posters created by the WPA in the 1930s. 

Myself and two other students had the opportunity to create a poster and postcard to advertise the 2020 Annual Juried Student Exhibition at the Meramec Contemporary Art Gallery. This exhibition features the best of the best work from students from the entire art department, from fine arts to interior design. The poster would have to be inclusive to all disciplines, as opposed to a strictly graphic design solution.

Our approach was that oftentimes artists pour themselves into their work, so much that they can become indistinguishable from their work themselves. One member of our group volunteered to become 'the work', whom myself and our other group member painted. I took his photograph, and we paired it with simple, clean type to allow the image to take center stage. In line with our philosophy of becoming our art, we paired our poster with a plaque to accompany the image on display as if it were in an art gallery already.

From 2014 to 2018, I was the primary designer of the promotional materials for PEAK Sport and Spine Physical Therapy based in Columbia, MO. I began working there when the company was Sport and Spine Rehab and had just 13 offices throughout the state. It was a very small company that did not have a centralized marketing department and the website was run out of the office that I happened to be hired at as the new office manager. I took over the website and began making marketing materials for our newly hired St Louis area marketing manager right when the company merged with another mid- Missouri physical therapy company and became PEAK Sport and Spine Physical Therapy and added another 14 clinics. 

Over the next four years, I created brochures, flyers, labels, letterhead, magnets, and other promotional materials for the company, as well as managed the website and social media accounts. This was in addition to my duties as an office manager at the clinic that I worked out of. Eventually, I chose to take additional daytime coursework to complete my degree and reduced my hours at work and as a result was no longer able to accept  further marketing projects. I continued working as an office manager until I completed school.

Below are a few assets I created for the company. As the company had no concrete budget for marketing software, I created these from open-source software, (Inkscape, GIMP), Microsoft Word, and G-Suite.

Color studies on toned paper of the small and often ignored. This was a project for Drawing II. I enjoy making light of the practice of using fruit as a subject in still life whenever possible.
